Importing data

Supported File Formats

vBook supports the following file formats:

FileMaker Pro (.fp12) - This format allows you to keep fields labels.
Tab-Separated Values (.tab or .txt) - Used with most applications. If you do not know which format to use, start by trying it.
CSV (.csv or .txt) - text encoded as Comma-Separated values, used in most spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel or by most database management systems.
Merge Files (.mer) - Export format recommended to create sample letters in a text editor. This format allows you to keep fields labels.
Excel 95-2004 Workbooks (.xls) - Used by Microsoft Excel 95-2004.
Excel Workbooks (.xlsx) - Used by Microsoft Excel (2007 and later)
dBase (.dbf) - This format allows you to keep fields labels.
XML Data Source (.xml) - Apart XML files, you can import the XML data from an HTTP request.

Importing from vBook 5 saved database

  1. Choose File > Import records... from the menu bar.

  2. In the dialogue window Import records… choose All (Restoring a previous version of data), as Module Name, then click Continue.

  3. In the next dialog, choose vBook - backup as source, then click Continue.

  4. Find a saved database file. See the chapter Backup and restore  for more information on automatic and manual backups. Autosaved backup files are named as follows: vBook_db_1.vb5, vBook_db_2.vb5, etc. Choose the file with the most recent date (not the one with the highest number).

  5. After having found the right file, click Choose.

Import from a file

Address Book and Works modules only are able to receive imported data.

  1. Choose File > Import records... from the menu bar.

  2. Select Address Book or Works and click the button Continue.

  3. As Source, select File.

  4. Field Mapping dialog box shows in two columns source and target fields. The target fields are the vBook fields that should receive the data.

  5. Map vBook module fields to their corresponding source file fields.

  6. Click Import.

Import from a folder

Importer d'une base de données vBook v3 ou v4

  1. Choisissez Fichier > Importer depuis vBook v3 ou Fichier > Importer depuis vBook v4 depuis la barre des menus.

  2. Dans la fenêtre d'importation, localisez la base de données de vBook v3 (database.vb3) ou de vBook v4 (vBook_db.vb4), en fonction du choix opéré dans l’étape précédente, puis cliquez sur Insérer.

  3. vBook vous alertera par un message que les données existantes seront remplacées par les données importées. Cliquez sur Continuer. Le processus peut durer plusieurs minutes et ne doit pas être interrompu.

  4. Attendez la fin de l'opération et vérifiez si toutes les données ont été importées correctement.
