The images you insert into vBook determine the size of the database and, as a result, its promptness. Before preparing images for vBook, you should consider the following:
Your hardware configuration (processor speed, computer memory, hard disk capacity, printer quality...).
Number of images to insert.
Purpose of the images (high quality print, simple cataloguing, etc.).
Before inserting the images of your works in vBook, take care to prepare them in a compressed format such as JPEG or PNG. Typically, images in JPEG or JPEG-2000 with low compression ratio (quality between 75 and 85%), not exceeding a width or height of 1000 pixels with a resolution of 72 pixels per inch, are perfectly suitable for a standard use. But, ultimately, it's your personal (or professional) experience that will be the best adviser in this matter.
Tip for using: A good compromise could be to keep high-resolution images aside and integrate only JPEG-compressed copies in vBook. There are many free or inexpensive image compressors that you can download from the Internet. If you use Photoshop for JPEG conversion, choose rather than command.
If you need to insert PDF documents, e.g. a header or a footer, or add press articles in , you need to consider this: the advantage of the PDF file format lies in its vector format, that results in a better quality of preview and printing. Despite the small size of a vector document, the image and text remain sharp. If a document contains both text and graphics (or photos), or multiple pages of a press article, you can save it as PDF. Avoid to save bitmap images alone as PDF. Prefer to generate PDFs with a text editor if they contain text (or text + images). Use a vector graphic software if they contain logo or other graphics. Always verify the size of the PDF files you insert, to not to increase the weight of the vBook database unnecessarily.
